Hobs come in all shapes and sizes including gas, electric, induction and ceramic hobs. Ceramic hobs are increasing in vogue all the time. They consist of heating elements beneath a glass top. With ceramic hobs the heat is conducted through the glass and only into the pan. Ceramic hobs suit designer kitchens to a tee due mainly to how easy they are to clean (especially when compared to other hobs) and how good they look all of the time.
Other advantages of a ceramic hob include touch sensitive controls, built in timers and lights that inform you that a hob has recently been on and can be touched without burning.
A ceramic hob can be heated using a variety of elements including halogen, standard radiant and fast response ribbon. Bear in mind when purchasing your ceramic hob that while induction cooking leads the way in efficiency, it can be the most costly choice. Offering more control than a gas hob, the induction hob is cheaper to power than electric ones but specific ferrous iron saucepans will be needed.
